アメリカ人アーティスト、アレクサンダー・コールダー（Alexander Calder）とアメリカの現代絵画の巨匠、エルズワース・ケリー（Ellsworth Kelly）の作品集。ドミニク・レヴィ（Dominique Lévy）とブレット・ゴルヴィ（Brett Gorvy）が設立したギャラリー「Lévy Gorvy」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。現代美術の巨匠である2人の友情と、共通して追求した抽象芸術について考察された1冊。

ヴェロニカ・ロバーツ（Veronica Roberts）は、この2人と共通の友人らの間で交わされた書簡を通じてその関係の歴史を時系列に添って辿った。これらの手紙が出版物として公開されるのは今回が初めてである。さらに、コールダーの伝記の著者であるジェド・パール（Jed Perl）は、エッセイ「Apollonian Affinities」で二人の芸術家の共鳴性を検証し、哲学者のロバート・ホプキンス（Robert Hopkins）は、2人の抽象芸術へのアプローチの類似点と相違点を論じた。

この展覧会の作品に対する答えとして、ダン・チアソン（Dan Chiasson）、フォレスト・ギャンダー（Forrest Gander）、サイモン・ペルチク（Simon Perchik）らが書き下ろした美しい詩も合わせて収録。

Accompanying Lévy Gorvy’s exhibition Calder / Kelly, this catalogue centers on the artists’ friendship and shared pursuit of an abstraction inspired by natural forms. A timeline authored by Veronica Roberts traces the history of their relationship with previously unpublished letters between the artists and members of their shared circle of friends. Innewly commissioned essays, Calder biographer Jed Perl examines resonances between the artists and philosopher Robert Hopkins discusses the similarities and differences in their approaches to abstraction. New poetry by Dan Chiasson, Forrest Gander, and Simon Perchik beautifully responds to works in the exhibition.
