オランダ人フォトグラファー、ヴィヴィアン・サッセン（Viviane Sassen）の作品集。本作はギリシャ神話に出てくるエロスとタナトスの愛と喪失、自己と他者を探求する物語を主題とし、南アメリカ・スリナム共和国の人里離れたジャングルにある村で撮られたEtanという名の青年のポートレイトと、古代ナルシス神話や大プリニウス絵画にインスパイアされた作家自身のポートレイトが織り交ざるようにまとめられている。

Etan & Me is a story of love and loss, of Eros and Thanatos. It’s a story about the exploration of the Self and the Other. Are we ever able to truly know someone, to truly know ourselves? These are the question which come to mind when looking at the latest book of renowned artist / photographer Viviane Sassen. In a remote village in the jungle of Suriname, she took portraits of this young man called Etan and combined them with blurred and scattered self-portraits, reflecting on the ancient myths of Narcissus and the Origin of Painting by Pliny the Elder.
