ドイツ人アーティストのトーマス・デマンド（Thomas Demand）とアメリカ人小説家・詩人のベン・ラーナー（Ben Lerner）の文章で構成されるコラボレーション作品集。紙で丁寧に創られた “Blossom = 桜” のイメージは、2013年5月4日にニューヨークタイムズ紙に掲載された、同年4月に起こったボストンマラソン爆弾テロ事件のタメルラン・ツァルナエフ容疑者の妻、キャサリン・ラッセルの写真に関連している。デマンドの作品は撮影され、壊され、見る人を目の前にある現実とは違った、仮想現実の世界へと引き込み、そこへラーナーの文章を添えることにより、デマンドの写真にまた新たな解釈が提案されている。



The texts and images presented here are part of Blossom, a collaboration between the artist Thomas Demand and writer Ben Lerner. The images relate to a detail from a photograph of Katherine Russell, widow of Tamerlan Anzorovich Tsarnaev leaving her home in Boston, that first appeared in the New York Times on 4 May 2013. Thomas Demand’s work lures the viewer into a reality that is not what it appears to be. Carefully contrived from paper, these imaginary worlds are sculpted, photographed and destroyed. The traces which remain are events in which the protagonist is removed, scenes that are both familiar and out of reach.
