2021年にプリツカー賞を受賞したフランス人建築家のアンヌ・ラカトン（Anne Lacaton）とジャン＝フイリップ・ヴァッサル（Jean-Philippe Vassal）の作品集。2人による作品群を3つのコンセプト「フリースペース（FREE SPACE）」、「トランスフォーメーション（TRANSFORMATION）」、「アビテ（HABITER）」を通じて紹介する1冊。2022年刊行後に完売していたが、2025年に「NEW EDITION」として再版された。

フリースペース：理想の空間とは、広さ、効率、快適さが十分に整っていなければならない。これはあらかじめ定められた目標であり、ラカトン & ヴァッサルによる建築の原理原則である。これについて議論の余地はなく、2人による全てのプロジェクトの基本になっている。

トランスフォーメーション：建物を取り壊してはならない。常に何かを付け加え、変化させ、拡張する方法を考える。既存の構造や状況に、自由な空間（フリースペース）を適用する。空間は既存の前提条件として扱われなければならない。空間の価値をありのままに受け止め、決してそれに逆らわずにプロジェクトに取り入れること。

アビテ（住む・暮らす）：空間に暮らす、空間を使う、空間を自分のものにする。建築映像作家でありジャーナリストのカリーヌ・ダナ（Karine Dana）による映像のフレームを通じて他者と居住空間を具体的なものとして提示し、ラカトン & ヴァッサルが建てた9つの建築作品で営まれている生活と居住者を見せる。

本書はスペイン・マドリッドの「Museo ICO」で2021年10月から2022年1月に開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

In this book, the French architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, winners of the 2021 Pritzker Prize, present their work through three concepts:

Free Space – the ideal space would invariably be generous of size, efficiency and comfort. This pre-determined aim is a fundamental principle for Lacaton and Vassal: it is no longer up for debate, and it forms the basis of all their projects.

Transformation – never demolish, always add, transform, extend. Apply free space to existing structures and situations. Treat the place as an existing prerequisite. Take the values of the place as it is and integrate them into the project, never in opposition to it.

Habiter – life, uses, making the space one’s own. Making the others and the inhabited space tangible through the frames of Karine Dana’s films, showing the life and inhabitants in nine built works by the architects.
